Making Japan a leading SX nation

Overcoming the Sustainability 2026 Problem

Making sustainability information disclosure mandatory
Turning it into a great opportunity for business growth

Project Overview

“We want to solve the "Sustainability 2026 problem," enable Japanese companies to achieve Sustainability Transformation (SX), and ultimately regain their global presence. It is with this in mind that we are launching the "Make Japan a Leading Nation in SX" project.

Background of the project launch

Climate change, biodiversity loss, air and ocean pollution... Since the Industrial Revolution, corporations, and the world as a whole, have pursued only economic gain, and as a result, our planet is now in crisis.

In this context, the role expected of companies is also changing, and they are now required to protect the "sustainability" of both the company and the planet. But that's not all. Management that emphasizes "sustainability" should also be a great "opportunity" for Japanese companies to regain their global presence.

Japanese companies, once hailed as "Japan as Number One," have been in a prolonged slump, with many showing a PBR below 1. For Japanese companies, where the spirit of "win-win-win" (benefiting the seller, the buyer, and society) is deeply rooted, the next source of growth should be "sustainability transformation."

The realization of SX by Japanese companies, and the subsequent revival of their global presence, depends on whether they can overcome the impending "Sustainability 2026 problem."

However, this sense of crisis has not yet permeated Japanese society.

To protect the planet, solve the Sustainability 2026 problem, enable Japanese companies to achieve Sustainable Development (SX), and revive their global presence, we are launching the "Make Japan a Leading SX Nation" project.

What is the Sustainability 2026 issue?

The "Sustainability 2026 problem" concerns whether Japanese companies can establish a system for utilizing sustainability data in their management by the 2026 disclosure deadline, in order to achieve SX (Sustainability for Sustainable Companies) and, beyond that, enhance their global presence, while aligning it with their business plans.

Realizing SX involving business units and group companies

Many companies lack awareness of the importance of sustainability management, which is hindering the promotion of Sustainability (SX).

It is necessary to disseminate this message not only to the sustainability department, but also to business units, group companies, and even suppliers, and to align it with the business plan.

Corporate management utilizing sustainability data beyond disclosure requirements

Companies are preparing for the mandatory disclosure of sustainability information (SSBJ standards), which is scheduled to begin sequentially from the fiscal year ending March 2027.

However, in order to achieve SX and improve corporate value, it is not enough to simply comply with disclosure requirements; a highly agile management reform that utilizes sustainability data beyond that is necessary.

サステナビリティデータの収集・利活用が抱える問題

Challenges in collecting and utilizing sustainability data that hinder the realization of Sustainability (SX)

Establishing the infrastructure for collecting and utilizing sustainability data is a prerequisite for realizing Sustainability (SX).

However, in many companies, resources are diverted to inefficiencies caused by manual processes and data collection from numerous departments and locations within the group, making it difficult to focus on what they should be doing: "improving corporate value."

It is necessary to establish a system for utilizing sustainability data in business decision-making.

Sustainability 2026 Issue
The turning point for Japanese companies

Whether to treat disclosure as an obligation and take minimal action, or to view it as an "opportunity" to leverage sustainability data to implement agile management reforms and build a company-wide data infrastructure, the disclosure process in 2026 will be a crucial turning point.

We will communicate to the world the crucial turning point of whether we can realize SX across Japan and regain our global presence, calling it the "Sustainability 2026 issue."

Actions to address the Sustainability 2026 challenges

It has become apparent as a nationwide issue in Japan, and we must begin addressing it promptly.

SX is a major key to Japan regaining its global presence. It should not be treated as a problem for a single company, but rather as a challenge and opportunity for Japan as a whole, and we need to start addressing it early.

Exercising leadership through management

Establishing a system for utilizing sustainability data is difficult for a single department to do alone. It is crucial to involve business units and group companies and work on it company-wide.

Development of personnel to promote SX

The optimal methods and systems for utilizing sustainability data are still far from established, and there is a need to cultivate SX (Sustainability Science) personnel who can create the "right answer" themselves.

This project is essential for creating a better future for society and the global environment, and we believe it is a necessary initiative to find sustainable solutions through collaboration among many companies and organizations. In achieving SX and enhancing corporate value, many companies have raised concerns regarding the structure, personnel, and operations of their promotion organizations.

I was deeply impressed by Booost's efforts to drive transformation through the power of IT. Sustainability is not a problem that can be solved by individual companies alone; it is a goal that can only be achieved through collaboration. I feel that participating in this project is an important step in helping to build a better future. Together, we will dedicate ourselves to the challenge of realizing a sustainable future.
